Harbour City, situated in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon, is the pinnacle of retail in Hong Kong. Across two million square feet, this vast complex is comprised of high-end apartments, multiple hotels, a shopping mall, and so much more. The most prominent entities are the Gateway Arcade, Marco Polo Hotels, Ocean Terminal, Ocean Centre, and the Pacific Club Kowloon. 

Harbour City is easily the most popular shopping destination in Hong Kong, with Festival Walk (situated in Kowloon Tong) being a close second. There are over 450 stores, an art gallery, over 70 restaurants, cafes, and bars, and a massive movie theater. The observation decks make good use of Harbour City’s waterfront location with stellar views of Hong Kong Island and beyond. You can really spend a full day or two exploring Harbour City and still have a few boutiques left to hit.

It’s situated right on the waterfront between Canton Road and the Star Ferry Pier at the southern tip of Kowloon. It’s right on the water, but still easily reached via public transportation. Along with retail and cultural offerings, there are plenty of amenities for visitors, as many locals and international travelers use Harbour City as a singular destination where all their needs are met for a full trip. While there is way too much to do and see in Hong Kong for an international traveler to solely rely on Harbour City, it’s the perfect place to do some shopping, and it’s the ideal rainy-day backup plan. 

Harbour City bag policy 

There are no rules against bringing your bags (of any size) into Harbour City. However, the luggage storage onsite can’t accommodate large items, so it’s recommended that you find a place to store heavy baggage and suitcases elsewhere. Even if it’s allowed, Harbour City is absolutely massive and you do not want to get caught lugging your belongings across its expansive footprint. 

Are there any Harbour City luggage storage options? 

Harbour City does offer multiple luggage storage facilities. These are all self-service, with one on Level 3 in the Ocean Terminal and one at the Gateway Arcade on Level 4 (right next to the McDonald’s). The rental fee is very affordable at about $2.75 for a two-hour rental in a small locker. Large lockers are about $6 for two hours. It should be noted that these lockers are fairly small, with the largest units being able to fit backpacks as opposed to duffle or roller bags. So this is hardly the most viable option for full luggage items. 

Where can I store luggage on Hong Kong Island? 

If your hotel’s concierge or porter service offers luggage storage before check-in, you can head to your accommodations. This might not always be convenient, especially if you’re trying to visit landmarks or attractions that aren’t located near your hotel. Transportation hubs in Hong Kong won’t have luggage lockers or any other options, so it’s best to look into a dedicated luggage storage service. Does MTR Central Station have luggage lockers? 

MTR Central Station doesn’t offer any storage lockers, and this unfortunately goes for other transit stops throughout Hong Kong’s MTR network. Luckily, this station is well-situated near the central business district and Shun Tak Centre on Hong Kong Island, so you’ll be able to find luggage storage facilities operated by Bounce, and we have almost a dozen locations serving the area. 

Where can I store my bags in the Kowloon District? 

Kowloon, like Hong Kong Island, will have a number of luggage storage options available. Certain museums and attractions may offer lockers or a cloakroom, and almost all hotels will accept bags prior to check-in. The most convenient way to find a place to store the bags would be a luggage storage service like Bounce. 

How to get to Harbour City

• Train: The closest train stop to Harbour City is Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station, which is only a five-minute walk along Haiphong Road to get to the main entrance. From Tsim Sha Tsui Station, you’ll be able to reach just about every major train station in Hong Kong either directly or through a connection. 
• Bus: Harbour City is located just steps away from the Tsim Sha Tsui Bus Terminal, which is one of the largest hubs in Kowloon. You’ll be able to catch the 1, 1A, 2, 5, 5A, 5C,  6, 7, 8 (to Kowloon City), 8A, 8P, and 9 buses to various points in Hong Kong. There’s a ticket office for purchasing bus fare along with information about the various routes. 
• Taxi and rideshare: It’s easy enough to get a cab or rideshare anywhere in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, and you can get dropped off right outside Harbour City off of Canton Road. The average Uber or taxi will cost about $15 from Kowloon or $25 from Hong Kong Island. 
• Parking and prices: There are a few parking garages serving Harbour City, and each has its own rates for parking. The options are Ocean Terminal Car Park (P5), Ocean Centre Car Park (P6), The Gateway Car Park (P1), and Pier 3 Car Park. On average, it costs about $2 per hour to park, and all of these are available to park throughout the day. If you’re staying the night, parking will quickly add up, so a better option would be to check with your hotel to see what parking rates are. 

Getting to Harbour City from Hong Kong International Airport 

The most common way to get here is the Airport Express train from the airport to the West Kowloon Station Exit and then take the shuttle bus to Harbour City. With the transfer, it takes almost an hour, but it’ll only cost about $10. You can also take a taxi directly to Harbour City from the airport. In light traffic, the trip takes only 30 minutes from door to door. Rush hour will add 10-15 minutes, but it’s still the most convenient way to get here. A trip will cost between $40 and $60. 

Things to do near Harbour City

While the possibilities within Harbour City are almost endless, there are a few major attractions in Kowloon that are worth checking out. Here are a few: 

Get some fresh air at Kowloon Park 

If you’ve been cooped up on a long-distance flight and want to stretch your legs, the massive Harbour City provides ample room to go for a walk. But if you’re craving some more verdant surroundings, head to this nearby public park built on an old army barracks from when the British Army occupied the city. There are miles of leafy trails and comfortable lawns for having a picnic (you’ll see locals practicing yoga or performing tai chi). There are also a few ponds and fountains where locals will feed the birds along with a dedicated Aviary conservatory. If it starts to rain, head to one of the free museums or Discovery Centre situated in the park. 

Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade 

Situated just east of Harbour City is the wonderful stretch of waterfront overlooking the Harbour and Hong Kong Island. The views from Harbour City’s terrace are just as good, but taking in the scene along the waterfront is part of the charms. The promenade starts at Victoria Dockside and runs to Hong Kong Coliseum. It’s easily the most popular spot for locals to take in the fireworks show held during Chinese New Year. You’ll also get to experience the Symphony of Lights show where the skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island’s skyline work up a spectacle for the entire city to see. 

Temple Street Night Market 

If Harbour City is feeling a bit stuffy and corporate, head out into Kowloon City to explore one the Temple Street Night Market, which is easily the liveliest place to be once the sun goes down. With multiple city blocks of vendors offering everything from cheap threads to street food, you can scrounge together the money you didn’t spend at Harbour City’s boutiques for a cheap evening out. You’ll find some “not-so-kid-friendly” elements at the Night Market, so this might be a fun option for groups of twentysomethings as opposed to families.
