Wine Unearthed

Wine Unearthed is a company that puts together wine tasting events and classes. They offer both in person and online activities, so you can get to know them online before you even reach Bristol! They have been serving the locals of Bristol for 14 years now making them one of the longest standing wine experts in the entire city.

They are one of the best places to go to further your knowledge and appreciation of wine. You can make an entire day out of it if you sign up for their wine tasting day experience. This event will let you taste 15 different kinds of wines and be treated to a delicious 3 course meal and lunch. It costs about £95 per person and at the end of the day, you will go home with a course book and your own notebook full of wine tasting notes to remember the things that you have learned. Their wine tastings take place at the fantastic Square Club.

Bristol Wine School

The top destination for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding and gain more experience with wine is the Bristol Wine School. They have built a reputation as one of the best wine schools in all of Bristol and offer classes both online or in person. If you are visiting Bristol we definitely recommend going in person!

You will be placed in a friendly and welcoming group with passionate tutors that will lead the class in a relaxed and educational fashion. The courses tackle topics like introduction to wines, the wines of Italy or France, wine pairing workshops, or masterclasses on specific varieties of wine. There are masterclasses on Gin and champagne as well! They range in price between £35 and £90 and the classes will take place at one of their several locations around Bristol and Bath.

Aldwick Estate

The Aldwick Estate is the biggest vineyard in Somerset and the perfect destination for all wine lovers visiting Bristol. Situated just beneath the Northern area of the Mendip Hills, this winery is found in a stunning area with a picturesque landscape. You can come to see it for yourself if you sign up for a 90 minute tour of their estate.

On your tour, you will get to learn a little more about the history of the vineyard and English viniculture in general, and see their wine making process first hand. Take this opportunity to try some local wines as well! Clifton Wine School

The best way to spend any day in Bristol is tasting wines with friends and the Clifton Wine School is a great place to go. You don't need to have any previous experience so don't worry if you've never attended a wine tasting before! Although they are a school they provide a fun, relaxed, and informal environment where everyone can go to learn. If you are staying in Bristol for a while consider signing up for their 8 week classes.

They have a variety of classes happening regularly and they cover a wide range of topics. Keep them in mind if you want to learn more about wines from around the world, wine and food pairings, or, for those with less experience, a simple introduction to wines. The cost for classes varies between £30 to £175 so you should be able to find a course in your price range.

Avery's Wine Merchants

Avery's Wine Merchants was established in Bristol back in 1793 and is a family-run business now operating in its fifth generation. With over 220 years of experience under their belt, they are more than equipped with the knowledge to pass on to you! They function as a wine shop and school offering easily accessible night classes.

If you aren't sure that you want to commit to a class you should at least pay them a visit and take a tour of their gorgeous cellars. While you are here you might as well sample some wines and buy a bottle or two to take home. You also have the option to sign up for a professional in-house wine tasting.

KASK

KASK is another fantastic place to do tastings in Bristol, and since they offer wine tasting kits and virtual events you can actually attend from anywhere around the world! Of course, you can also visit them in person anytime that you find yourself in Bristol and that is probably the best way to get the most out of your experience. It will only cost you about £25 for the DIY wine tasting kits, making it an affordable way to try new wines.

If you want to sign up for a 75 minute live virtual wine tasting with their experienced professionals it will cost you approximately £35. The in-person events of sampling with cheese are hosted monthly on the third Wednesday and are the same price as the virtual tastings. If you don't happen to be in town for the monthly events, you can look forward to their weekly wine tasting days where you can decide how many wines you want to sample, and that will affect the price. There are only 15 spots available per week so book ahead if you can!

Limeburn Hill

Head to Limeburn Hill Vineyard the next time that you are thinking of doing a wine tasting in Bristol. They are located just south of the city and are home to around 2600 vines belonging to seven different types of grapes. The vines are all hand planted and Limeburn Hill is proud to be one of only 7 biodynamic vineyards in the whole south west!

Stop by for a guided tour if you want to learn more about their winemaking process and biodynamic agriculture in general. Aside from wine tastings and workshops they also host eco-friendly events related to topics like composting or beekeeping. The tours and tastings cost around £17.50, and some events can cost up to £70.

Le Vignoble

Le Vignoble is a nice wine bar and a great spot to do some Bristol wine tasting. Not only will you get to try new wines but you can expand your wine knowledge, too. At Le Vignoble you can take charge of your own wine tasting by choosing from over 60 different varieties available in their self-serve machines, so you can take your time sampling glasses of wine and comparing them. Dunleavy Vineyard

The Dunleavy Vineyard is owned and run by a resident of Bristol. Ingrid Bates is a true wine lover herself and first began the project in 2008. By 2012 she was serving award-winning Pinot noir rosé! Her wines have even been tried and recommended by some of the world's top critics so don't miss a chance to taste them yourself.

Anyone who is interested in stopping by is more than welcome to sample her wines and get a tour of the vineyard. Once you make an appointment you will be all set to meet the owner yourself, get a personal tour around her property and, of course, try the wines. Included in your trip is a quick visit to some local artist studios!

Native Vine

Native Vine doesn't only produce great tasting wines but they are also all naturally made! If you happen to get tired of trying wines, which most likely won't happen, you can change it up with their beer, cider and spirits. They work out of a café called The Bristol Loaf and have a few locations around the city so you should be able to find one close to you.

Native Vine doesn't only offer a great wine tasting experience but is guaranteed to widen your views on what winemaking can be. They have a strong focus on farming practices that are sustainable and friendly to the environment, as well as grape varieties that are not as well known. Come learn something new!

If you still haven't seen enough Bristol wine you can stop by The Quadrant which is a gorgeous wine bar found in Clifton. They have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and this is one of the places that you will want to go to relax with friends in the evenings. Whether you are wine connoisseurs or complete beginners, this spot will have something new to teach you. Sign up for one of their wine tastings that take place in their cellar with groups varying from 10 to 30 people. They have over 30 wines to choose from and chances are that they will have something you haven't tried before.

Thornbury Castle

Thornbury Castle is a place that you will want to visit even if you aren't crazy about wines. Take a journey back in time to this 16th-century castle which is now home to a luxurious hotel, a fabulous restaurant, and a wide range of wines thanks to the fact that it has its own vineyard! This is the ideal destination for appreciating old architecture and for trying food and wine.

They serve great wines and delicious meals but if you want to get hands-on and deepen your wine education you can sign up for tastings and pairings. They also have some great classes on culinary arts as well.
