Rooftop Bar in Budapest: 8 Places to Drink with a View

Published by: BouncePosted

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary and was actually created by merging three cities. Buda, Obuda and Pest merged together in 1873 to create the Budapest that we know today. You will mostly find luxurious areas in Buda and most of the urban living quarters in Pest, although you can easily get to both parts of the city thanks to the Chain Bridge!

Some of the best attractions in Budapest include the biggest synagogue in all of Europe as well as a collection of therapeutic spas. The reason for this is that Budapest is sitting on top of a natural reserve of spring water, and nearly 70 million liters of thermal water are produced every day! Treat yourself to a day at the spa and then check out some of the best shopping in Budapest at a nearby fashion street.

Budapest is home to some really unique and beautiful architecture and it is a pretty place to visit. When you go out to eat or for drinks in the evening, find a place where you can still admire the city. Take a look at these places where you can dine with a view! Sky Bar & Pool by Cortile Hotel

What's it like:

Both in house guests and visitors of the Cortile Hotel can enjoy a night like no other on their sky terrace which is one of the very few rooftops in Budapest with an infinity pool. Although the terrace is on the smaller side it is still worth checking out, especially if you like swimming.

The only thing that could make the night any better would be delicious snacks and a few drinks, which is why their cocktail bar is a welcome addition to the venue. Bring some friends or a date and go swimming with a drink in hand while taking in a unique view of the illuminated city.

Our recommendation:

The Cortile Hotel is proud to be environmentally conscientious and always does its best to protect the environment and not waste. Because of this, they do not provide guests with towels so you will need to plan ahead and bring your own if you want to go swimming.

Location:

Make your way to the Sky Bar & Pool at the Cortile Hotel. Their address is Budapest, Dessewffy u. 14, 1066 Hungary.

High Note Skybar

What's it like:

The High Note Skybar is one of the best rooftop bars on the Pest side of the city and we definitely recommend that you check them out. They have a gorgeous and spacious terrace with views of Budapest that go as far as the eye can see. Of course, you will want to sit outside but if it gets too cold you can take advantage of the lovely indoor seating space as well.

You will also find a huge rooftop garden hidden on the roof which only adds to the appeal of the elegant terrace. Their rooftop is probably the closest that you can get to St. Stephen's Basilica whose bell tower is almost within reach! If you visit the High Note Skybar on Sundays you might be able to enjoy some live concerts.

Our recommendation:

This sky garden bar is often described as one of the most romantic places in the city. Want to impress your date? Come here for the sunset and snuggle up on their comfortable couches as you watch the beautiful city light up below. If you can't come for dinner try attending their morning yoga classes which take place on Sundays.

Location:

High Note Skybar is situated on top of the elegant Aria Hotel which is near St. Stephen's Basilica. Their complete address is Budapest, Hercegprímás u. 5, 1051 Hungary.

Liz and Chain Sky Lounge

What's it like:

The Liz and Chain Sky Lounge is one of the best rooftop bars in the city and is just waiting for you to stop by on a warm summer evening. It is located between the Elizabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge, hence its name, and offers a beautiful panoramic outdoor terrace where you can admire the entire landscape between them.

As you dine in style you will be able to spot sightseeing boats gliding along the river below you and people busily going about their day, all while you are sipping on a refreshing drink. As the sun sets and the city starts to light up, you will be able to see the Royal Palace lit up against the city skyline. One thing is for sure, this sky terrace offers an unparalleled panorama of Budapest.

Our recommendation:

This will require some planning but if you haven't decided on a time to visit Budapest yet we recommend trying to be here on August 20th. This is a national holiday in Hungary and a spectacular fireworks show will be put on. This terrace transforms into a party venue and is the best spot to watch the light show.

Location:

This is another one of the rooftop bars in Budapest that are found on the roof of a hotel, although it is not reserved for the hotel's guests and everyone is welcome. This one sits comfortably on top of the Marriot Budapest in the Inner City and you can find it at Budapest, Apáczai Csere János u. 4, 1051 Hungary.

St. Andrea Wine & Skybar

What's it like:

Are you interested in trying some wonderful Hungarian wines? St. Andrea is the first place you should go. This place was named after the local Hungarian winery that founded it and serves all of the same amazing drinks you would find there. Although it is a wine bar, you will be able to find much more than just wines here. Take a look at their extensive champagne list and signature cocktails!

Aside from drinks, you can order an entire meal since the bar-restaurant features a selection of gourmet bar food as well. Take your meal outside and eat in one of their two alfresco terraces so you can admire the city skyline as you eat. Thanks to the huge glass windows you will be able to take in the views even if you are eating inside.

Our recommendation:

A meal here will cost a pretty penny but, considering that you will be eating dishes prepared by an internationally recognized chef as well as some of the best wines from the Eger region, it is well worth the money! Order some Hungarian ratatouille and a dish of caviar complimented by your choice of red or white wine. You will find the St. Andrea Wine & Skybar off a nice pedestrian shopping street in the city, so take advantage of its location to do some retail therapy.

Location:

Head to the north side of the Inner City of Budapest and you will find them by the eastern riverbank. Their address is Budapest, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 78, 1055 Hungary.

Sky Garden Rooftop Terrace

What's it like:

Right when you step foot inside the elegant lobby of the recently opened luxury hotel that houses this bar you will be impressed, but just wait until you see the rooftop terrace! It is chic and modern with comfortable lounging chairs and plants decorating the whole space. Currently, it is only open until autumn but there are plans to make it available year-round.

Starting at 6 pm the restaurant is open for business so consider buying a meal to go with your delicious drink of special cocktails. It is the perfect spot to get away from the business of the city and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with panoramic views of Budapest below you.

Our recommendation:

This bar is located a little further into the Pest side of the city giving you a nice view of both the Pest buildings in the front and Buda in the backdrop. You can see everything from the railway station to Gellert Hill. Try to find the Buda Castle in the distance!

Location:

This rooftop bar should be easy to get to since it is located in the Mystery Hotel just behind the Nyugati train station. If you get lost just head towards Budapest, Podmaniczky u. 45, 1064 Hungary.

MemoRise Skybar

What's it like:

When it comes to a unique dining experience with a view the seasonal roof terrace at Hotel Memories Oldtown Budapest is the best place to go. It is conveniently located on the Pest side of the city and offers a spectacular view of that area and you should even be able to see the gorgeous Citadel from your table.

Enjoy the cosmopolitan vibe of the rooftop bar while you dine on locally sourced and seasonal dishes. They sometimes have live music playing as well; what more could you need for the perfect night in Budapest?

Our recommendation:

Aside from an exciting wine bar serving delicious Hungarian varieties, you can enjoy cocktails and other refreshing beverages. Before you head home we recommend that you grab a homemade sorbet as well.

Location:

Looking for MemoRise Skybar? The Hotel Memory is found at Budapest, Bástya u. 33, 1056 Hungary.

Intermezzo Roof Terrace

What's it like:

Intermezzo is one of the most popular rooftop bars in Budapest and it's not just because of its 360 degree view of the city, although that is certainly a bonus! It is home to one of the best cozy rooftop restaurants in all of Budapest and their food is fantastic.

The terrace is open all year round, even in the wintertime. It is a great spot to drink with friends on a warm evening or do yoga in the mornings but when it gets cold the terrace is transformed to suit the chilly weather. You can sip on a hot drink inside of the bubbles that are set up around the tables or skate around on the outdoor ice skating rink they set up.

Our recommendation:

Intermezzo serves some great meals. Take your pick from a wide selection of grilled and light dishes that will satisfy any of your cravings, and pair it with the drink of your choice. If you don't know what to pick the cherry draft beer is a great selection.

Location:

To get to Intermezzo you will have to make your way to the upstairs terrace of the Hotel President. Their address is Budapest, Hotel President, Hold u. 3, 1054 Hungary.

Leo Rooftop Budapest

What's it like:

For a fun but low-key evening in Budapest head to Leo! This rooftop bar is popular among locals and is sure to be one of your favorites, too. Even some celebrities have come here for a glass of champagne or to try something off of their list of handcrafted cocktails. Aside from a great drink menu, you will also be treated to some of the nicest views of the city center.

This stylish bar is definitely one of the best places to go on the Buda side of the city, which has fewer rooftop bars than Pest. The bar features an open-air terrace as well as a section that is covered by a glass roof so you can enjoy the natural lighting and look out over Budapest no matter the weather.

Our recommendation:

The Leo Rooftop sky bar is a great place to visit any day of the week, but you will have the best time if you go between Thursday and Sunday evenings. This is when they bring in live DJs who will play laid-back music for you to enjoy as you eat! If you are visiting during the day we recommend coming in for a hearty breakfast at their fantastic buffet brunch which is available on weekends from 12 pm to 4 pm. They can get busy so consider making reservations.

Location:

This bar is found on top of Hotel Clark situated between the Chain Bridge and Buda Castle. See if you can spot them both from the terrace! You will find the Leo Rooftop bar at Budapest, Clark Ádám tér 1, 1013 Hungary.

Drinking and Dining Above Budapest

Budapest is a beautiful city (make sure you see Budapest Nepliget) and there is something special about dining in an exciting hidden atmosphere on the rooftop of a building. This is why many of the fancy hotels in Budapest offer their very own unique dining experience on the roof and they are popular for their fantastic views of the city.

Rooftop terraces are the perfect venue for private events and once you combine the entertainment with some intensely flavorful unique cocktails you are all set for an unforgettable night in Budapest!
