Queen Victoria Market is one of the most popular markets in the city and is open for business both during the day and at night. Since 1878 locals have been visiting the market to buy all sorts of things including fresh produce, clothing, handmade trinkets and secondhand items. The market spans two city blocks so there is a lot for you to discover, and there are even food trucks set up in the area in case you get hungry.
The market is open year round every Wednesday night and sometimes follows different themes. Check out the winter night market during the colder months or the summer night market throughout the rest of the year. Events and celebrations are often going on at the same time so there is much more to do here than just shopping.

The gaol was used to house criminals as well as mentally ill patients from the mid 1800s to 1929, and a total of 133 prisoners were hanged here for their crimes.
