Vincent van Gogh is one of the world's most famous artists. As a native son of the Netherlands, the bulk of his surviving work is in Amsterdam. The van Gogh Museum represents the largest collection of the artist's work anywhere in the world.

Receiving more than two million visitors a year, this is the most visited museum in the Netherlands, and one of the most visited museums in the world. As a result, it can get quite busy, especially during summer. It's about the last place you want to be dragging heavy bags around with you.

You should also be aware that as with many museums, the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam prohibits large bags. There are no lockers available at the museum, so it's best to find a place to store your luggage before visiting. Check for Bounce luggage storage locations in Amsterdam so you can wander the galleries unencumbered.

As well as around 600 works by Vincent himself, the van Gogh Museum also displays works by his contemporaries. With work by Rodin, Gauguin, Monet, and Toulouse-Lautrec, among others, you could easily spend a day or more in this sprawling museum.
