Plaça de Catalunya is a thriving plaza in the center of Barcelona. Located between the Eixample and Ciutat Veila, the plaza is a place of buzzing energy and a must-visit for any tourist. The plaza dates back to 1927, when it was officially opened by King Alfonso XIII. It was designed by a group of architects including Puig i Cadafalch, Pere Falques and Francesc de Paula Nebot and measures a large 5 hectares in size. The plaza is known for its sculptures, which were strategically created to represent 6 different categories. Four of the categories stand for Catalan capital cities, while the two others represent labor and wisdom.
