About Toledo

Via Toledo in Naples is one of the premier shopping, dining, and sightseeing areas of this beautiful city. Running for 1.2 km from Piazza Dante and ending at Piazza Trieste e Trento, close to Piazza del Plebiscito and the legendary San Carlo theater, this relatively short street is packed with things to see and do and fantastic places to eat. Also, in this sunny city, this street and many others like it function almost as a communal living room for city residents. This is where people shop, dine, and just hang out, enjoying the anarchic atmosphere that makes the city of Naples what it is.

Because it's so close to many of the top attractions in the city, Via Toledo is hard to avoid. With great public transportation links to the rest of the city, this is somewhere that's as easy to reach as it is fun to enjoy. Track down a luggage storage in Toledo, and you can enjoy one of the most interesting places in the city for yourself.

Can you store luggage at Naples train station?

Italian train stations often don't offer storage lockers for security reasons, but if you need to store your bags, there is a luggage storage service at the main Naples train station. How to get to Toledo

Generally, the best way to get to Via Toledo is by taking advantage of the Naples Metro system. There is a Metro station just underneath the city's main train station and Piazza Garibaldi, and from there, it's simple to get to the Metro stations that serve the street.

Dante is one option for reaching Via Toledo by metro. The station lies on Line 1 of the Metro system, and you can reach it in only 10 minutes from the train station.

Toledo Station is another option, closer to the center of the street with which it shares its name. It's also on Line 1, so depending on where on the street you want to go, this might be a better option.

Finally, Municipio lies a few blocks east of Via Toledo. This is the closest metro station to the Naples cruise ship terminal, so if you're arriving in the city by boat, the station can provide a useful gateway to the heart of the city. Although it's perfectly possible to walk from here to Via Toledo, you can also use Municipio to take you to one of the other Metro stations that are right on the street itself and save yourself an uphill climb.

However you choose to do it, a ticket on the Naples Metro costs €1.10 for a single ride, or €4.50 for an unlimited day ticket.

To reach Via Toledo from Naples Airport, you'll need to take the shuttle bus from the airport to Napoli Centrale train station. From there, it's easy to get onto the Metro and head to Toledo.

Things to do near Toledo

San Carlo Theater

This historic theater is an almost legendary venue in the opera world. After all, Neapolitan opera is a recognized style of opera all by itself, and it was developed by musicians and composers from the city who often played in this majestic Royal theater.

Opened in 1737, the theater dates back to long before the country of Italy was founded when Naples was under Spanish occupation. In the centuries between now and then, the theater has burned down, been rebuilt, survived wars, and hosted some of the biggest names in music.

For any lover of opera or classical music more generally, seeing a show at the San Carlo is a guaranteed highlight of your trip to Naples. But even if you can't see a show here, you can take a guided tour during the day that will explain the fascinating stories of composers, opera divas, kings, and commoners who have contributed to this outstanding cultural attraction through the years.

How to get to Teatro San Carlo

The theater sits at the southern end of Via Toledo, so it makes a great destination to aim for as you explore the street. Municipio is the closest metro station to the opera house and is only a short walk away, but Toledo Metro station is also easy to reach on foot from the theater. However you choose to get there, and whatever event you may be attending, use our app to book luggage storage so you can carry on enjoying Naples while your suitcases stay safe with the best luggage storage in the city.

Vomero

Less an attraction than it is a neighborhood, Vomero has so much to offer travelers, but many of them never make it here. Vomero sits high on the hills overlooking the city, so you're guaranteed spectacular views. There's also the forbidding Castel Sant'Elmo to explore, and the monastery and museum of St. Martin.

But Vomero has more to offer than just its ancient history. This lively area is popular with students, and it gives you a glimpse into the real life of Naples away from the historic center. This is the place where you'll find some of the best food, the coolest bars, and the most enjoyable atmosphere in the city.

How to get to Vomero

This is definitely one of those cases where the journey is part of the destination. To reach Vomero from Via Toledo, take the funicular railway that climbs the steep hill from close to the midway point of Toledo up to Vomero. It only takes a few minutes, and it's part of the city's Metro transportation system, so will only cost you the price of a Metro ticket.

Street food

Naples has so much to offer visitors, and its incredible cuisine ranks high on the list of reasons to come here. Famously, Naples is the birthplace of pizza, and you'll find plenty of that on offer, including pizza portafoglia, which is a small personal pizza folded to be carried in one hand and eaten on the go.

But street food has been part of Neapolitan culture since long before it was a trendy idea. All along Via Toledo itself, as well as in the streets surrounding it, you'll find frigitorrias, pizzerias, delicatessens, and bakeries serving up dishes that are hard to find anywhere else. You could easily spend a whole day eating your way along Via Toledo and immersing yourself in this part of the city's culture.

National Archaeological Museum of Naples

Naples is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in all of Europe, and here, the past is never far away. If you want to immerse yourself in this story of the city, head to this major museum close to Via Toledo.

The museum is perhaps most famous for holding finds from the major archaeological digs at nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum. Don't miss the Secret Cabinet, the collection of erotic art found in Pompeii that was hidden away from the public for many years.

How to get to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples

Hop on Line 1 of the Metro from either Toledo or Dante stations, depending on which one is closer to you. From there, you can get to Museo station in just a couple of minutes, and the museum is right next to the station itself.
