About Rome Airport

Formally known as the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Rome Airport is the main international airport for Rome. The airport is about 35 minutes to the southwest of Rome in the town of Fiumicino. This large airport was built in 1960 to handle the overflow of visitors for the summer Olympic Games, and in 1961 it became the official airport of Rome. Today, it is one of the busiest international airports in Europe.

There are four passenger terminals at the Rome Airport, although only two are consistently open, with the other two terminals only opening when an influx of flights is expected. Visitors to Rome Airport can enjoy several amenities, including a personal shopper. Request a personal shopper so you can or go out and enjoy the sights while your shopper picks up what you need. Visit one of the spa locations, and have a refreshing facial, get a manicure, or massage to relax while waiting for your flight.

Fun Fact: Most days, passengers can enjoy a live concert before boarding their plane. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia has partnered with the Rome Airport to provide live entertainment throughout the airport for passengers’ enjoyment.
