About Tiburtina Bus Station

Let's be honest. None of us travel with the intention of seeing the inside of a bus station. Inside the railway station just next door, you'll find plenty of shops where you can pick up anything you need on your travels. You'll also find a quick and easy way to get into the heart of Rome.

If you arrive in Rome by bus, chances are it will be at Tiburtina bus station. And even though the station lies outside the heart of the city, to the northeast of Rome's ancient walls, it occupies a vibrant neighborhood of its own. In many ways, the Tiburtina neighborhood allows you to see the city through the eyes of a local rather than a tourist. Take a look around, and you'll find the neighborhood doesn't lack for great restaurants, bars, and nightlife.

  • Check out one of Italy's most significant libraries at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale. Don't let the modern building fool you; the library dates back to 1876 and houses books that go all the way back to the 16th century.
  • Shop like a local at the Mercato Tiburtina. Away from the tourist crowds, this open-air market is a perfect place to experience a side of Rome most foreign visitors don't get to see. Plus, you'll find far lower prices than you would at one of Rome's more central markets.
  • Get away from the noise and chaos of the city at Aniene Valley Nature Reserve. Popular with Romans looking for a break, the rolling meadows and quiet river of this park can make the noise of the sprawling city seem a long way away.
