About Bologna Centrale Station
Located in the north of the city, Bologna Centrale Station is a major train station in the charming city of Bologna. It serves approximately 58 million passengers annually, making it the fifth largest station in the country based on number of passengers. Although, according to train movements it is nearly the busiest and has a comparable number of services to Rome Termini Station at 800 each day. The station operates services between Bologna and a range of destinations, including Milan, Verona, Padua, Ancona, Florence, Vignola, Portomaggiore and Pistoia. Some of these services are standard and some are high-speed.
Bologna Centrale Station has 27 platforms across two categories: Bologna Centrale and Bologna Centrale (AV), which is for high-speed lines. The station was originally opened in 1864, however, has had many upgrades over the years. In 2008, architect Gae Aulenti’s design was selected to construct a modern station that would accommodate new high-speed train lines. This saw underground platforms being opened in 2013 and the installation of additional tracks which were ready for use in 2016. This design is still present in the current version of Bologna Centrale Station.
