The Best Music Festivals in Sydney in 2022

Field Day

Celebrate the New Year at Field Day! This exciting Sydney music festival takes place on the 1st of January at a beautiful venue in The Domain, a park adjacent to the Royal Botanical Gardens found in the heart of town. Field Day specializes in a combination of music genres including hip hop, indie, house and electronica.

Some of the talented groups that have played in the past include Hayden James, Amy Shark, Chris Lake, Running Touch, The Japanese House, Thundamentals, Juice Wrld and Cardi B. The music and entertainment are always spectacular so don't miss your chance to see these singers perform live.

Fomo Festival

At the Fomo Festival, which used to happen in January, you will find an abundance of talented people performing on only one stage. This helps to make sure that each artist gets the attention that they deserve and it also helps keep the venue organized and safe. A mix of artists play, so there will definitely be someone that you know performing.

The Fomo Fest used to be held at Parramatta Park in Sydney where you could go to hear the sounds of hip hop, dance, alternative, rap and other genres of music. Some names who have made an appearance in the past include Lizzo, Meduza and Brockhampton. Although the event is not scheduled to happen this year everyone is hoping for it to return sometime soon!

Electric Gardens Festival

Sometime in January and February of 2022 will come the Electric Gardens Festival of Sydney. It always happens around the time of Australia Day, so now you will have even more to celebrate! Come party with some of the best names and artists from the electronic music world. It is held in a beautiful location of the Centennial Parklands close to the Sydney Opera House.

Concerts happen on four separate stages and go on for 10 hours, so be prepared to dance the day away. Guests include both international artists as well as Australian stars. Some of the names that you might recognize include Fat Boy Slim, Dubfire, Mark Knight, MK, Eric Prydz, Armand Van Helden as well as Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott.

St. Jerome's Laneway Festival

For the past few years, Sydney has been one of the cities to host the St. Jerome's Laneway Festival at the College of the Arts. It was planned again this year but it has recently been confirmed that the 2022 festival will not be happening. This is upsetting of course, but they are already planning an amazing event for 2023 and are promising a very exciting lineup!

This music fest usually happens sometime in January and February so you can already start planning your trip to Sydney for next year. The last festival had some pretty great headliners including Charli XCX and The 1975. You can start looking forward to the St. Jerome's Laneway Festival that will be coming back to Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, Fremantle, Brisbane and Adelaide in 2023.

Ultra Australia

Ultra Australia is definitely one of the biggest music festivals of its kind in the world. Come celebrate electronic dance music beginning on March 5th this year. It is set to happen at Parramatta Park and every year tens of thousands of people attend. The organizers are determined to create an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Come see performances by talented DJs and electronic artists like Afrojack, Sam Feldt, Andrew Rayel and Alesso. Will Sparks, Deborah De Luca, Oliver Heldens and Coone are also set to make an appearance alongside many others.

Touch Bass

On April 17th, 2022 Sydney is hosting the Touch Bass festival. This event is definitely worth a trip to the city with amazing artists, great music and awesome company. They visit a couple of cities around Australia, and in Sydney, they will be playing at the Hordern Pavillion.

Only a few artists are in the lineup but you better believe that they will make it a night to remember. Come watch Excision, Drezo, Kanine, Wa-Fu and Flava D perform on stage from 7:45 pm all the way until 1 am. They have the loudest rigs as well as the biggest production and the event is going to be great, so don't miss your chance!

Pure Festival

If you are still in Sydney on the 30th of April, head right back to the Horden Pavillion for the Pure Festival. It is sure to be a hit among techno fans since the event is put on by none other than Carl Cox. Did you know that he actually lives here in Australia?

It was just a couple of years ago that he started the Pure Festival and now it is an annual event. Grab your friends and plan your next trip to Sydney or one of the other cities in the country that he also visits.

Sydney Folk Festival

Make your way to Surry Hills, Australia from the 19th to the 21st of August for the Sydney Folk Festival. This event was supposed to happen in 2021 but was canceled due to circumstances around the world. But don't worry, all of the same bands from last year are invited to the 2022 festival!

Crow Mountain, Austral, 40 Degrees South, Penny Davis & Roger Ilott, The Mutual Acquaintances, Squeezebox Boogaloo, Sullie, Traditional Graffiti and The Water Runners are some of the people that you will get to see perform. It is going to be one of the biggest and most anticipated events so don't miss your chance to attend.

Return to Rio

Get ready for some crazy partying at the Return to Rio fest. It is the best music festival for fun outfits and fashion, and people really go all out! The event is happening twice from the 13th to the 15th of May and the 28th to 30th of October at Wiseman's Ferry in Sydney, NSW. These events are always full of action with lots of dancing and drinking as you enjoy the live music.

The bands playing during this festival are all part of the techno, house and club genres so you know the music will be upbeat and fun. The headliner is the Martinez Brothers playing alongside some other talented artists like Dirty South, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Made in Paris, Nukreative and Sneaky Sound System, among others.

Listen Out

This is one of the great Australian music festivals that you can attend in Sydney. Listen Out happens in the gorgeous Centennial Park usually at the end of September but this year it is happening on October 1st. It hits four separate cities in Australia and always sells out quickly so buy tickets as soon as you can.

All kinds of music enthusiasts come together to be at Listen Out and the artists in the lineup are chosen to satisfy all kinds of music tastes. Come watch performances from people like Cosmo's Midnight, Slowthai, Denzel Curry and Flume.

Festival X

This is one of the newer music festivals in Sydney and is already a popular one. Everyone is excited about the 2022 event since Festival X had to be postponed for two years. Save the date of December 3rd since that is when the festival will be happening in Sydney.

It will be held in the Olympic Park of the Sydney Showgrounds and one thing is for sure, you don't want to miss out! Some pretty big names will be performing like Calvin Harris, Lil Pump, Alison Wonderland, Steve Aoki, Godlands, Blueface, Sunset Bros and more.

Lost Paradise Festival

Calling all festival goers; the Lost Paradise Festival is set to happen in Sydney from the 28th of December to the 1st of January next year. It is the perfect activity for those who don't know what to do for New Year's and want to make the day memorable. The event is happening in Glenworth Valley, New South Wales.

At the festival, you will see several stages set up around the valley and each one will be occupied by different talented artists from Australia. They also encourage self-care with different workshops and yoga classes. Most people stay for the whole event so bring your camping gear! Food and drink are offered on site. Some of the groups making an appearance include The Jungle Giants, Rufus Du Sol, Methyl Ethyl and so many more.

Subsonic Music Festival

If you are looking for a really unique Sydney festival then this is the one. The Subsonic Music Festival is set to happen sometime in December we've learned and is so much more than just a music festival. It is set on giving festival goers the full experience of celebrating music, art, community, and life itself. The festival venues are in Riverwood Downs in Monkerai.

Get ready for non-stop partying since the music plays all day and night! Last year artists like Andy Garvey, Ata, Saoirse, Young Marco, Audiofly, Craig Richards, Ben Fester and more have played in previous years. Next year's lineup is sure to be great!

Yacht Social Club

Summer in Sydney, Australia is great; you have hot weather, surfing, and the Yacht Social Club! Grab some friends and hop on a yacht anytime on the weekend between November 6th and April 30th to dance, sing and swim to live music.

The Yacht Social Club gathers on Saturday every week in the summer. Lots of boast gather around together as the best local DJs play summer tunes and it is really an unforgettable event. Make your way to Sydney Harbour if you want to participate.

Secret Garden Party

The Secret Garden Party was an incredible event that used to happen in Sydney, although currently, it is not running. But don't give up hope; it has returned to other places around the world, like Cambridgeshire in the UK, after 5 years. Chances are that they will return to Sydney as well, and it will be great!

The lineup is made of carefully selected artists and bands that play non-stop, although the festival usually lasts for two days. Most of the groups played dance music or electronic songs that would keep you awake and moving all night long. In the past, it was held at Brownlow Hill, NSW.
