About San Diego Zoo

Located in bustling downtown San Diego, this animal park is a must-see spot for people of all ages. The San Diego Zoo grounds cover 100 acres and are home to more than 4,000 animals. In total, 650 different types of creatures can be seen here, including some rare and endangered species, as well as exotic animals. As a not-for-profit organization, the San Diego Zoo and its sister park, Safari Park, offer an exceptional guest experience. Keep in mind that both parks require a separate admission ticket, but there are multi-day ticket options that allow you access to both.

To ensure comfort, animals are kept in large spaces that mimic natural environments. On top of that, the Zoological Society of San Diego focuses on conservation and is known to have reintroduced over 30 endangered species back into the wild. Here, guests can expect to see some beautiful and rare animals such as lions, tigers, mole rats, Galapagos tortoises, peacocks, baboons, koalas, and so much more, including some awesome creatures at the Reptile House. Aside from housing many endangered species, the zoo also functions as a botanic garden with over 700,000 species of flora.

Fun fact: The San Diego Zoo has the biggest population of giant pandas in all of North America. This is an impressive feat, given that these creatures have been declared endangered since 1984.

When you visit the San Diego Zoo, make sure you wear walking shoes. There’s so much to see and do here that you can plan a multi-day visit and still have more to explore. Be sure to download the San Diego Zoo app so you don’t miss out on anything, and grab the Bounce baggage storage app while you’re at it. That way, you can store your bags at one of our convenient locations before you tour the habitats.

San Diego Zoo bag policy

According to the San Diego Zoo rules, scooters, balloons, remote controlled toys, drones, glass containers, roller shoes, sports equipment, large food storage containers like coolers, and other specific items are prohibited in the park. You’re allowed to bring personal food items and it’s recommended to pack a few snacks, since the minimum visit time to fully enjoy the zoo is at least three or four hours. On top of that, the park isn’t able to accommodate allergies as they can’t prepare food separately.

Guests with pets or emotional support animals, and any other items that the zoo employees deem unsafe, will be asked to store their belongings or leave them behind before they can enter. If you’re traveling with your own furry friends and require kennel service, you’ll have to check out the local kennels as the park doesn’t offer kennel service on site. We recommend checking the zoo’s website before visiting so you can become familiar with their regulations.

To avoid conflicts, consider storing your oversized bags or belongings with Bounce before your visit. We have plenty of convenient locations all over the city and are the best luggage storage service for travelers in San Diego.

Can I store luggage at the San Diego Zoo?

Zoo guests can use the outdoor storage lockers offered at the Safari Park or the self-service lockers at the San Diego Zoo to store items. You can also store luggage on-site for $10.00 for a small bag and up to $15.00 for larger items. Keep in mind that lockers can sometimes fill up fast, especially if the park is busy, so plan ahead to make sure that you won’t be left with nowhere to leave your things.

Another alternative is to store your belongings with us. We can store everything from golf clubs to strollers and small purses to shopping bags, so you can explore the San Diego Zoo without being weighed down by your things. By completing our advance reservations for baggage storage using our app, you can pick a storage partner location and drop off your bags at the designated time. Doing so also makes same day re entry into the zoo a breeze. To find a drop off point located adjacent to the park, use our app or website’s search function.
