About Brickell

Brickell is a high-rise residential neighborhood located in the Greater Downtown Miami. Situated between Miami Beach and Coral Gables, just north of the Miami historic central business district (CBD), Brickell is largely considered as a major financial district for both Miami and South Florida. The neighborhood was named after William Brickell, who is credited as co-founder of Miami, along with Julia Tuttle. The area was actually designed by Mary Brickell, William’s wife, for mansions and lavish homes along Brickell Avenue, thus being dubbed “Millionaire’s Row.” However, during the 1970s, the large homes were slowly replaced by skyscrapers, hotels, high-rise homes, and condominiums. It also took over the historic CBD and was named one of the country’s biggest financial centers.

Aside from the dizzying amount of luxury apartment towers and upscale residential homes, Brickell is also renowned for its plethora of world-class restaurants, trendy bars and high-end shopping districts. This is why the buzzing neighborhood has earned the nickname the “Manhattan of the South.” While most of the area has been modernized, you can spot a few hidden gems and ancient sites that have been preserved to remember Brickell’s history. All in all, there is plenty to see and do in this neighborhood, and it is definitely one of the best places in Miami to visit.

Fun fact: Due to its continuously-growing population, Brickell is the densest neighborhood in all of Miami.
