About San Francisco Airport

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located 13 miles south of Downtown San Francisco. It’s the busiest airport in the San Francisco Bay area and the second busiest in the state, falling just behind LAX airport in Los Angeles. Furthermore, SFO is the seventh busiest airport in the United States and a major hub for United Airlines and Alaska Airlines. San Francisco Airport has one international terminal and three domestic terminals, as well as shops, restaurants, and places for travelers to relax as they wait for their flight. Did you know that SFO is also the home base of LiLou, the world’s first airport therapy pig? Lilou provides relief and delight to passengers, pilots, crews, and airport staff alike.

Sometimes you’ll be stuck at an airport while you wait to check in to your hotel or even on a long layover. When you’ve got a few hours to spend and are looking for things to do, you’ll see plenty of great activities and attractions to enjoy in the area around the airport. Keep your bags stored and out of the way with Bounce luggage storage and start your adventure.

Does San Francisco Airport have a place to store luggage?

Yes, you can store suitcases and other items at the Airport Travel Agency center in the airport and the cost changes based on what you need to store. Prices start at $7.00 per hour or $24.00 per day for items up to 16” and range up to $60.00 for large items taller than 7 feet, like surf equipment. To store suitcases, expect to pay between $20.00 and $35.00 for 24 hours of storage, and bicycles will cost $40.00 to store.

If you plan to leave the airport, use our affordable baggage storage services. We have multiple convenient locations around the city, and we charge one flat rate for all belongings, no matter their size. Whether you’re traveling with large sports equipment, strollers, or a small purse, it will always cost the same to store your things with us.

Does San Francisco have lockers?

The only place to store luggage in San Francisco Airport is at the Airport Travel Agency mentioned above, so you won’t find any SFO lockers throughout the terminals. If you need a quick and secure luggage storage service, take advantage of any of our partner locations to store luggage near San Francisco Airport.

Our user-friendly app makes storing your belongings a whole lot easier. You can choose a location and book your spot in advance right on your phone. When it’s time to drop off your suitcase, just show up, leave your things with the friendly staff, and be on your way in minutes.

How early can you check bags at SFO?

If you’re traveling with a checked bag you might not be able to drop it off right away. The counter to drop off checked bags will only be available four hours prior to your flight, and it closes one hour before your time of departure. Travelers planning to walk around the area and needing somewhere to keep their bags can use a luggage storage service to store items until they can be checked.

Things to do near San Francisco Airport

If San Francisco isn’t your final destination but you’ve got a long layover and need to stay near the airport, you’ll find several things to do in the surrounding area. From attractions offered inside the airport to locations worth visiting just outside, here are a few things to do nearby.

SFO Museum Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum and Library

Did you know that SFO has its own museums located inside the airport terminals? The Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum and Library can give you some insight into aviation with model planes, descriptive diagrams, and educational exhibits. If you enjoy browsing the displays at this museum, you should also visit the two other SFO museums: the SFO Museum Fly & Explore Video Arts and the SFO Museum Gallery Harvey Milk.

Bayfront Park

Situated right outside the airport, Bayfront Park is the perfect place to relax outdoors and a popular location for watching planes take off and land. The park boasts walking trails, nice views of the San Francisco Bay, and benches. Come here to stretch your legs before taking off on your flight.

Millbrae Square

Looking to do some retail therapy? Treat yourself to something new at Millbrae Square shopping mall, a retail center conveniently located a few streets away from the airport. Here, you can shop for clothes, snacks, home decor, and more, or just get a bite to eat at one of the on site restaurants. It’s a nice spot to spend your layover at San Francisco Airport.
