About LAX

LAX Airport, also known as the Los Angeles International Airport, is located in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles, 18 miles southwest of Downtown LA. The airport first opened nearly a century ago in 1930, and it’s the largest airport on the west coast, with nine passenger terminals and over 150 gates. This bustling airport is known to be one of the busiest in the United States as well as the world. Aside from being a major hub for cargo, domestic and international flights alike, the airport has been featured in countless films and TV shows, including the movie Die Hard.

Although most people only come to LAX when they’re flying in or out of Los Angeles, the airport offers a variety of choices when it comes to dining and entertainment. Shops and restaurants are available for browsing and dining as you wait for your flight, as well as several lounges where you can rest during your travels. If you have a few hours to wait and want to take your exploration outside of the airport, keep your personal belongings safely out of the way by taking advantage of our luggage storage service, offered at multiple locations near the airport and around the city.

Fun fact: LAX features rotating art exhibitions and installations across 11 sites throughout its terminals.

Can you leave your luggage at LAX airport?

LAX doesn’t have storage lockers or a luggage room where you can keep your bags, although they do offer a pick up and drop off service outside of the airport. To use this service, you have to make a call, and somebody will meet you at the terminal to take your things. It costs between $12.00 and $18.00 per item each day, depending on the size of what you need stored.

If you don’t want to wait around to store your bags, just remember that you can store luggage with Bounce for only $5.90 per day. With our fixed prices, we don’t charge more to store large boxes, random items, or baggage. Our convenient locations are strategically placed next to tourist attractions and hubs for transportation services, like train or bus stations.

How late can you check a bag at LAX?

Most airlines will accept checked bags up to 45 minutes before the time of your flight departure. The baggage check-in service offered for passengers traveling on domestic flights at LAX can be used at any time on the day of travel, but the website states that bags must be checked at least 3 hours before your flight takes off. To be safe, check your bags with your airline as early as possible, or at least over an hour before time of departure to ensure that the service can still be offered to you.

Things to do near LAX Airport

Travelers who’ve just arrived at Los Angeles airport will find countless things to see and do in this luxurious travel hub. If you have the time, venture further out into the city to explore all of the modern attractions in Downtown Los Angeles and beyond. If you only have a few hours to spare there’s still plenty to do nearby as well. Here are some of our favorite attractions near LAX Airport.

Flight Path Learning Center and Museum

What better activity to do during a layover than to learn more about planes and flying? You won’t have to go very far to reach the Flight Path Learning Center and Museum since its location is right at the airport.

The museum was founded as a nonprofit organization back in 1995. Today, it teaches visitors about the first pioneers of aviation, how and why this industry is so important to Southern California today and encourages local youth to take an interest in flying and planes. If the aviation industry interests you, or you just want somewhere cool to spend time in, this museum is a super fun place to go.

Flight Path Learning Center and Museum bag policy

There’s no clear bag policy for this museum, but nothing can ruin sightseeing like carrying your bags around the entire time. Free up your hands by storing luggage with us. Once you complete your payment online, it takes no time at all to drop off your things at your chosen storage location.

Manhattan Beach

Since the airport is located by the waterfront, sand and sunshine are never too far away. Several of LA’s best beaches are in the area, including Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach, but the closest to the airport is Manhattan Beach. It’ll take between half an hour and an hour to reach this beach, and once you arrive, you’ll have access to 2 miles of oceanfront with 115 acres of sand.

While here, you can walk down the beach, fish at the pier, swim in the ocean, tan in the sun, or surf on the waves. Surf lessons are offered on the beach, and numerous volleyball nets are set up for friendly games.

The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum

If cars are more your thing then don’t miss a visit to this museum, located just half an hour away from the airport via public transit. As you might have guessed by its name, this museum is all about automobiles and features an impressive collection of vintage cars. Its focus is to preserve and maintain these vehicles so that future generations can come to admire them and to exhibit how the automobile industry has evolved over the years.

In addition to displaying and teaching about the evolution of cars in terms of engineering, cultural importance, and aesthetics, guests can attend a variety of events, including Sunday Car Rides.

The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum bag policy

We’re unsure if this museum allows guests to bring bags through the exhibits. Some museums prefer that large items, like luggage and suitcases, are stored before you visit, so it’s a good idea to find a nearby location for luggage storage in case you need it.
