About Westminster

When people who have never been to London before think about the city, chances are good it's Westminster they're thinking about.

The ancient heart of the British capital, Westminster has been the center of English, then British power for centuries. That's a position it still holds today, since Westminster Palace, better known as the Houses of Parliament, is still the home of the British government to this day. Westminster is also home to some of the most important historic sites in the country, including Westminster Abbey, which has been the site of weddings and coronations of various British monarchs and is the final resting place not only of kings and queens, but also some of the greatest scientists, writers, and other figures Britain has ever produced.

In other words, Westminster is home to some of London's best-known and most popular tourist attractions. The ideal place to get to grips with the long history of London, this is a place you really can't say you've visited London without seeing.

Does Westminster Station have luggage storage?

Westminster Station is the gateway to this interesting area for lots of visitors. Unfortunately, there are no luggage storage facilities at the station itself. Your best option to store luggage is to use a luggage storage service like Bounce that allows you to book luggage storage online before you visit.

Does Westminster Abbey have luggage storage?

There are no luggage storage services at Westminster Abbey. After all, it remains a working church, as well as being a tourist attraction. That's why storing luggage at one of our luggage storage locations before you visit the Abbey is a good idea.

Can I bring a bag into Westminster Abbey?

You can bring small bags into Westminster Abbey. However, it's better to leave large bags behind in luggage lockers or other luggage storage options near Westminster before you visit Westminster Abbey.

Which stations in London have lockers?

Most of the major train stations in London offer luggage storage options, including Victoria Station, Euston, Kings Cross, Charing Cross, and St Pancras.

How to get to Westminster

Thanks to its central location, Westminster is incredibly easy to reach from just about anywhere in London, and beyond.

Victoria Station lies right on the edge of Westminster, just steps from Westminster Abbey. This is a combined train and Underground station, so it provides a useful link not only to London's subway network but also links to long-distance trains from around the country. Plus, it also features a coach station where long-distance buses arrive from all over Britain.

Importantly, Victoria Station is also the terminus of the Gatwick Express train, which brings travelers from one of London's major commercial airports right into the heart of the city. It takes around half an hour to get from the airport to the station and costs £20 one way.

However, if you arrive at Heathrow Airport, it's also very easy to find your way to Westminster. In that case, your best option is to use the Underground, which can take you from the airport to Westminster in about an hour and will cost less than £6.

Things to do near Westminster

Home to attractions like Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace, Westminster already has more than its fair share of attractions. But its central location in London means it's easy to visit some of the best places in the capital from here.

By partnering with local shops, hotels, and other businesses, Bounce provides a radical storage alternative to train station lockers. Drop off your bags in one of our convenient locations for a few hours, an entire day, or longer, and enjoy everything this part of London has to offer.

The London Eye

Located just on the other side of the river Thames across Westminster Bridge, the London Eye is well within walking distance of Westminster and is a great idea for any London itinerary.

This gigantic Ferris wheel offers spectacular views of central London, including the ancient buildings of Westminster. The enclosed pods protect you from the worst of the weather while you enjoy the view, and the wheel moves slowly, allowing everyone in the pod to get the best possible views and photo opportunities. In fact, this attraction is so popular that it's a good idea to book in advance so you won't be disappointed. And it's always a good idea to leave heavy bags behind so you can focus on your travel plans.

How to get to the London Eye

It's an easy walk across Westminster Bridge to reach the Eye from Westminster. Plus, it's an interesting walk that offers good views of either side of the river and great people-watching.

Still, if you don't feel like walking, you can take the Circle Line train from St. James Park to Westminster Station. You'll still need to cross the bridge, but it can save you some steps along the way.

St. James's Park and Green Park

These sprawling parks are some of the biggest and most popular in London, and they lie right on the northern boundary of the Westminster Area. These Royal Parks are also right next to Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarchy, so it's easy to visit both on a single trip.

Both parks offer gentle walking trails where you can stretch your legs and get some exercise amid the serenity of nature. They also feature expansive lawns where you can stretch out on a sunny day and have a picnic just like the locals do. In these oases of green space, you can see a different side of London and recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded city streets.

How to get to St. James's Park

In this area of London, packed as it is with fascinating places to explore, traveling on foot is probably your best option. The southern entrance to St. James's Park is only 1/3 of a mile on foot from Westminster, and Green Park sits right next to it, so you can store your luggage and explore Westminster on your way to the parks.

The Victoria and Albert Museum

With all the fantastic museums and galleries London has to offer, it's hard for any single one to stand out. But the Victoria and Albert Museum provides a wonderful place to visit that is usually less crowded than more popular museums like the British Museum.

This is the world's largest museum of applied and decorative arts. Located close to the royal residence of Kensington Palace, the museum explores fashion, textiles, painting, sculpture, photography, and just about every other aspect of decorative arts and crafts. These items are used to tell the story of the cultures that produced them, making this a fascinating approach to history.

The museum does offer baggage storage, but it can only hold bags smaller than a typical carry-on bag. For larger bags and suitcases, drop off your belongings at one of our locations so you can explore without worry.

How to get to the Victoria and Albert Museum

From Westminster, walk to St. James's Park Underground station. From there, you can take the Circle or District lines to South Kensington station. The museum is just a short walk from there.

Science Museum

Not far from the Victoria and Albert Museum, you'll find London's Science Museum. It may not have the most imaginative name, but it doesn't need to. The exhibits inside speak for themselves.

This is the perfect place to come with the family since the interactive exhibits are so much fun. No matter what age you are, you'll learn more about the world we live in as you explore through games, films, play areas, and other activities. Unlike most museums in London, this one is completely free to visit, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers as well as those with kids.
