About Javits Center

Commonly called the Javits Center, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was named after former New York Senator Jacob K. Javits. Designed by James Ingo Freed, construction began in 1985 and was completed in 1986, the same year Senator Javits died. The center is located on 11th Avenue in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Nicknamed The Marketplace of the World, the Javits Center is the main convention center in New York City and brings in more than $2 billion to the economy.

The Javits Center has played host to a variety of events, including concerts, boxing matches, car shows, Comic-Con, trade shows, conventions, and wrestling matches. Large events and smaller events can easily be accommodated at the Javits Center. Having 760,000 square feet of usable exhibition space overlooking the Hudson River has made it the go-to facility for many corporations. In 2019, there were just under 40,000 different companies and corporations booked for events at the Javits Center, making it the most sought-after convention center in the United States.

Fun Fact: The center played an important role during the COVID-19 pandemic by being transformed into a field hospital with the ability to house over 2,900 patients.
