How to get to New York City from JFK Airport

Train 

There are two popular options for travel by train to New York City. See a bit of the city as you relax on the train.

Subway

Route: Take the AirTrain from JFK Airport to Jamaica Station. Transfer to the subway at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.

Train: E train towards Manhattan.

Stops: Popular stops include World Trade Center, 34 St-Penn Station, and Times Sq-42 St.

Fare: $11.15 for most riders ($8.25 for AirTrain + $2.90 for subway).

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)

Route: Take the AirTrain from JFK Airport to Jamaica Station. Transfer to a Manhattan-bound LIRR train.

Stops: Popular stops include Penn Station, Grand Central, and Atlantic Terminal.

Fare: $13.25 (peak hours) or $15.25 (off-peak hours) for most riders to New York City with CityTicket.

Both options require you to pay the $8.25 AirTrain fare when you exit at Jamaica Station. The subway is generally cheaper but takes longer, while the LIRR is faster but more expensive.

Taxi:

According to the NYC Taxi Commission to take a taxi into the city it will cost: 

Flat Fee: $52

MTA State Surcharge: $0.50

Improvement Surcharge: $1.00

Rush Hour Surcharge: $4.50 (4 pm to 8 pm on weekdays, excluding legal holidays)

New York State Congestion Surcharge: $2.50 for Yellow Taxis
