The West Village is geographically unique since it lies askew of Manhattan’s standard grid system. It’s bound between Hudson River and Sixth Avenue from west to east, and West 14th Street and West Houston Street from north to south. It’s one of NYC’s most desirable (and thus most expensive) neighborhoods in which to live, given its historic preservation and picturesque beauty. In addition to a plethora of beautiful brownstones, the West Village is home to countless boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and winning options for nightlife.
Fun fact: At a mere nine feet wide, the West Village residence at 75 ½ Bedford St. is the city’s most narrow house.
While the West Village is certainly a trendsetting neighborhood, it’s also a nice, calm oasis from the chaos of many other parts of New York City. You can enjoy the following sites and activities while exploring the neighborhood:
Enjoy over 21,000 works of art at the recently relocated Whitney Museum of American Art
Tap into the area’s literary legacy by browsing the shelves at Left Bank Books, Three Lives & Company, and designer Marc Jacobs’ Bookmarc
Gorge on rich Italian fare at the celebrity-frequented hotspots of St. Ambroeus and Bar Pitti
Take pictures outside of the apartments from some of your favorite TV shows like Friends (90 Bedford St.) and Sex & the City (66 Perry St.)
Unwind to jazz music at the storied Village Vanguard, Fat Cat, or Smalls Jazz Club
Feel a deep sense of community and history by visiting the LGBT Center and legendary Stonewall Inn
MTA subway: 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, L, B, D, F, M
PATH to northern NJ
The mostly quiet, cobblestoned streets of the West Village won’t be amenable hauling around your clumsy luggage. Drop off your things to a Bounce partner so you can explore the neighborhood unencumbered.
Convenient to the Met, which does not allow luggage at coat check. Very easy check in and check out process, with lovely people at the front!
This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
Can’t believe I haven’t used this service until now. So easy & convenient. I 100% recommend.
