Whether deciding on your next city break or planning on visiting multiple places in a new country, there are plenty of TikTok travel bloggers to give you all the tips and tricks you’ll need.

To get an up-to-date view of the travel world on TikTok in 2024, we’ve taken another look at the top destinations and travel influencers on the app to reveal which are this year’s most popular. If you’re looking to plan your next trip away, here’s everything you need to know about the destinations taking TikTok by storm.

The most popular countries on TikTok

1. Pakistan - 61.3 million posts

Pakistan is the most popular country on TikTok, with over 61.3 million posts. The country, located in South Asia, is the fifth most populous in the world, with a population of over 241.5 million people. Its capital, Islamabad, is known for its beautiful parks and forests, such as the Margalla Hills National Park and the Shakarparian. Some other popular cities in the country include Karachi, Lahore, and Multan.

Pakistani cuisine takes influences from the likes of Britain, India, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Some of the most popular foods in the country include curry, meat, lentils, roti, and rice. These foods are perfect for travelers who like a lot of flavor and spice in their meals, as they are often seasoned with the likes of garlic, turmeric, and chili.

2. India - 58 million posts

In second place is India, with over 58 million posts on TikTok. Like Pakistan, India is also located in South Asia. As of May 2024, it is the most populous country in the world with over 1.4 billion people living there. Some of India's most popular cities for travelers to visit include Goa, Mumbai, Jaipur, and the country’s capital, New Delhi. In the capital city, national events and holidays, such as Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti, are celebrated heavily, making it the perfect time for travelers to visit if they want to experience the country’s culture.

The Taj Mahal, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the city of Agra in India. The ivory-white marble mausoleum houses the tombs of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It attracts over five million visitors annually and was declared one of the World's New Seven Wonders in 2007. 

3. United States - 29 million posts

The third most popular country on TikTok is the United States (U.S.), with over 29 million posts. The country is located in North America and consists of 50 states, including the likes of Florida, California, and Texas. The U.S. has both the third-largest land area and third-largest population in the world, standing at around 341.5 million. Its capital, Washington, D.C., is home to the federal government’s three branches: the Capitol, White House, and Supreme Court.

Due to its 50 states, the U.S. is a great place to visit as there is something for everyone. Those who like to experience the hustle and bustle of a new city should visit the likes of New York and Los Angeles. Any thrill-seeking travelers should head to Orlando for theme parks or San Diego for watersports. Those wanting to view some stunning landscapes and beautiful buildings should put the likes of Charleston and Savannah on their travel bucket list.

4. Mexico - 24.8 million posts

In fourth place is Mexico, with over 24.8 million posts on TikTok. Like the U.S., Mexico is also in North America. As of May 2024, it is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world, with almost 130 million people living there. Some of Mexico’s most popular cities for travelers to visit include Cancun, Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, and the country’s capital, Mexico City. The capital city is known for its vast main square, Zócalo, and the Templo Mayor, a 13th-century Aztec temple.

Mexico is well-known for its delicious cuisine, not just in the country itself, but across the world. Many meals are made with ingredients such as corn, avocado, peppers, and beans. Some popular Mexican dishes include fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, and tamales. In 2010, Mexican cuisine was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.

5. United Kingdom - 22 million posts

The fifth most popular country on TikTok is the United Kingdom (UK), with over 22 million posts. The UK is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Some of the UK’s most popular cities for travelers to visit include Edinburgh, Manchester, Belfast, and the country’s capital, London. The capital city has a diverse culture, with citizens speaking over 300 different languages. 

The UK is a great place for sports fans to visit, particularly those who enjoy watching football. One of the biggest football stadiums in the world, Wembley Stadium, is located in the city of London and holds up to 90,000 people. Many of the football stadiums throughout the UK can be toured by visitors, including Anfield, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, and the Etihad.

1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 29.7 million posts

Dubai is the most popular city on TikTok, with over 29.7 million posts. The city, located in the United Arab Emirates, is ideal for travelers who like the luxurious lifestyle, as it is home to the second-most five-star hotels in the world. One of the most popular hotels is the ocean-themed Atlantis, The Palm, which boasts over 1,500 rooms and amazing views of the Dubai skyline. It is also home to the world’s largest waterpark and the Lost Chambers Aquarium. 

Dubai is a great city for those who love to shop, and there are several malls, including the Mall of the Emirates, the BurJuman Mall, and the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest. The city also hosts the Dubai Shopping Festival, where visitors can take advantage of discounts, car raffles, and prize drawings for the whole month. The festival attracts over 4 million visitors every year.

2. London, United Kingdom - 10.3 million posts

In second place is London, with over 10.3 million posts on TikTok. The city, located in the United Kingdom (UK), is the capital of England and the UK. It is one of the most-visited cities in Europe, attracting over 18 million visitors every year. London has many famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, and four World Heritage Sites.

Fashion-loving travelers should visit London as it is one of the four fashion capitals of the world. London Fashion Week is hosted in the city twice a year and showcases over 250 designers. The city is also famous for its West End theater district and is home to a variety of famous theaters, such as the London Palladium, the Dominion Theatre, and the Apollo Theatre. Some of the longest-running theater shows in London include Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, and Mamma Mia.

3. Paris, France - 8.8 million posts

The third most popular city on TikTok is Paris, with over 8.8 million posts. The city is the capital of France and is home to over 2.1 million people. It is an ideal place to visit for those who like to travel sustainably, as it has one of the world’s most sustainable transportation systems and it is one of only two cities to have received the Sustainable Transport Award twice.

Paris is a great travel destination for those who love to experience art, history, and culture. The Louvre is the most-visited museum in the world, attracting over 8.9 million visitors every year. It is home to various world-famous pieces of art, such as the paintings of the Mona Lisa and Liberty Leading the People, and the Venus de Milo statue. It is also a great city for sports fans to visit, particularly those who enjoy football, rugby, cycling or tennis.

4. Istanbul, Turkey - 8.1 million posts

In fourth place is Istanbul, with over 8.1 million posts on TikTok. The city is the largest in Turkey and is also the most populous city in Europe. Despite not being the country’s official capital, it is considered to be Turkey’s economic, cultural, and historic capital. In 2010, Istanbul was crowned the European Capital of Culture.

Many people visit the city for the Grand Bazaar market, which has been in operation since 1461 and is one of the world’s largest and oldest covered markets. Istanbul is also a great place for seafood lovers to visit. The Kumkapi area, which sits along the Sea of Marmara, is particularly popular and is home to around 50 seafood restaurants. 

5. New York, United States - 7.2 million posts

The fifth most popular city on TikTok is New York, with over 7.2 million posts. The city, which is commonly known as ‘The Big Apple’ or ‘The City That Never Sleeps’, is the most populous in the U.S., with approximately 8.5 million people living there. It is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. 

There are countless attractions and activities for tourists to enjoy in New York. Film and TV buffs can join one of the many tours showcasing all of the famous locations around the city that feature on our screens. Theater fans can enjoy a musical on Broadway, including the likes of Chicago, The Lion King, and Wicked. There are also plenty of iconic landmarks to visit, such as the Empire State Building, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square.

The most popular travel influencers on TikTok

1. Alex Ojeda (@alexojeda)

• Number of TikTok followers - 8.5 million
• Potential TikTok earnings per post - $13,538 | £10,839 | €12,669

Alex Ojeda once again takes the position as the most popular travel influencer on TikTok. He currently has over 8.5 million followers on the platform, which is an increase of over 200,000 followers since last year’s TikTok Travel Index. The Mexican-American travel influencer loves to travel the world and experience a variety of thrill-seeking adventures. Whether he’s riding the world’s tallest water slide or the world’s fastest roller coaster, Alex regularly receives millions of views on his TikTok videos. Some of the countries showcased on his account include the U.S., Colombia, and Qatar.

2. Julia Gal (@juliagal_)

• Number of TikTok followers - 8.2 million 
• Potential TikTok earnings per post - $13,150 | £10,528 | €12,306

In second place and making her first appearance in the index is Julia Gal. The U.S.-born travel influencer has racked up over 8.2 million followers on her TikTok account, despite only launching it in 2022. Julia focuses on luxury travel and showcases some of the most extravagant and beautiful travel experiences in the world. Whether she’s enjoying a floating breakfast in a crystal-clear pool or admiring the stunning views from a rooftop infinity pool, Julia regularly receives thousands of views on her TikTok videos. Some of the countries showcased on her account include Greece, the Maldives, and Dubai.

3. Julia Thompson (@juliiathompson)

• Number of TikTok followers - 3.7 million 
• Potential TikTok earnings per post - $5,907 | £4,729 | €5,528

Falling to third place this year, but proving her ongoing popularity, is Julia Thompson. She currently has over 3.7 million followers on the app, which is an increase of over 200,000 followers since our 2023 index. The Canadian travel influencer’s content focuses on nature and the outdoors. Whether she’s camping next to a stunning lake or hiking up a mountain, Julia regularly receives thousands of views on her TikTok videos, with some even going viral and racking up millions of views. Some of the countries showcased on her account include Iceland, New Zealand, and Switzerland.

4. Jorden Tually (@jordentually)

• Number of TikTok followers - 3.7 million
• Potential TikTok earnings per post - $5,865 | £4,679 | €5,438

Also remaining popular this year, despite falling to fourth place is Jorden Tually. He now has over 3.7 million followers on the app, which is an increase of over 300,000 followers since last year. The Australia-born travel influencer provides a wide variety of travel-related content, from finding the best hostels to stay in for those on a budget to must-try foods. Jorden regularly receives thousands of views on his TikTok videos, with some of his most popular posts garnering millions of views. Some of the countries showcased on his account include Japan, Norway, and Pakistan.

5. Thomas Lotter (@lotterlive)

• Number of TikTok followers - 1.8 million
• Potential TikTok earnings per post - $2,816 | £2,255 | €2,636

Falling to fifth place this year but maintaining his 1.8 million followers is Thomas Lotter. The German travel influencer’s content focuses on finding beauty in different landscapes around the world. Whether he’s taking part in an open-door helicopter flight or exploring an igloo bar, Thomas regularly receives thousands of views on his TikTok videos. Some of the countries showcased on his account include Budapest, Italy, and Portugal.

“Asian destinations are particularly popular on TikTok at the moment, with Pakistan and India topping the list for the most popular countries and Dubai in first place for the most popular city. The U.S. also continues to prove its popularity on the app, placing third on the list of the most popular countries on TikTok. There are also three U.S. locations within the top ten most popular cities list: New York, Miami, and Chicago.

Methodology:

We compiled two separate lists of 50 popular countries and cities to travel to in 2024 by using sources such as Condé Nast Traveller, Lonely Planet, TimeOut, and U.S. News. 

We then used TikTok to record the total number of posts for the hashtag for each country or city.

Next, we compiled a list of 50 popular travel influencers by using sources such as Skratch, Russh, One World 365, and Izea. 

We then used TikTok to record each influencer’s follower count and Tikcalculator’s TikTok Money Calculator to calculate their potential earnings per TikTok post.

All data is correct as of 1 May 2024. All currencies were converted using Google Finance.
