Minsk, the capital of Belarus, has a long history, though much of the artifacts once associated with its history are gone. Although references to Belarus’s capital reach back in time to the 11th century, most of the city was razed to the ground by the German military during World War II. The war took its toll on the city’s citizenry, too. Before World War II broke out, Minsk’s population was around 300,000. By the end of the war, that number was down to 50,000.
Thus, while a few pre-war buildings do exist, most of the landmarks you can see there today went up during the Soviet Era. Additionally, when the Soviet Union still existed, Belarus was one of the states in the union. In 1918, the Red Army overtook Minsk. Months later, Minsk was declared the capital of Belorussian SSR.
Despite the challenges that Minsk has faced, it has steadily become a modern city, with many interesting sights, plenty of excellent eateries and lots of culture to take in.

The Minsk Railway Station - sometimes called Minsk Ploshchad Lenina or Minsk-Passazhirskij Train Station - is the first stop in Minsk for many international visitors in the city. It’s the capital’s main train station and a gateway not only to the city, but to other European destinations as well. Train passengers can catch their connecting trains here. They can also find buses, the trolleybus and the tramway close by.
It has existed in Belarus since the late 1800s. World War II saw the destruction of the station. In the years following the war, the train station was rebuilt and used until 1991, when it closed. After that, the train station was once again under construction. This period of construction lasted until the early 2000s.
Finding luggage storage in Minsk is Job One when you first arrive at the railway station. Fortunately for travelers like you, Bounce works with a number of businesses near the train station to offer bag storage in Minsk. If you’re going to be in or around this important transportation hub in Minsk, be sure to reach out to us if you need help with your bags.
The Belarus State Museum, or as it is also known, the Great Patriotic War Museum, preserves the memory of the 20th century’s bloodiest war. Today, the museum’s one of the planet’s largest and most significant war museums. Inside, visitors can find out about how Belarus survived Nazi occupation during World War II: More than three million people perished during the war years.
Starting in 1942, the museum began chronicling the lives and the deaths of the Belarusian people, many of whom died in one of the country’s 250 death camps. Despite being constructed during wartime, the building remained intact and began taking visitors in 1944. Today, the museum gets thousands of visitors each year. For history buffs, this is definitely one of Minsk’s “must-sees.”

If you’re craving one long adventure, you might want to begin it near Victory Square Monument. This area of Minsk is the Belarus equivalent of Moscow’s Red Square, though size-wise, it’s much smaller. However, that doesn’t mean it’s any less interesting. In fact, one of this area’s most notable features is that it’s located on Independence Avenue.
Independence Avenue is not only the city’s main street, it also takes you all the way to Moscow if you so desire. (That’s around 700 kilometers for those trying to do the math.) Although people do drive in this area, it is possible to catch a metro here at Victory Square Station, allowing you to leave your car at home, so to speak.
As for the monument itself, it’s directly in the square’s middle. It’s a relic that honors soldiers from both Belarus and the former Soviet Union. An eternal flame, dedicated to the fallen soldiers, was lit near the monument in 1961. If you’re a history buff, then chances are one of your stops in Minsk will be this monument. As such, you’ll want to look into luggage storage in Minsk near Victory Square Monument.
The Minsk National Airport, also known as Minsk-2, is a relatively new airport compared to most airports in Europe, many of which got their start before or during World War I. However, Minsk-2 has only existed since the late 1970s. However, by 1990, millions of passengers flew into and out of this airport.
Today, airlines like Air China, Belavia, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways have passenger planes coming into Minsk National Airport. If one of those planes happens to be yours, be sure to check out your options for luggage storage in Minsk near the airport. Bounce’s partners are ready to take care of your bags for the day so that you can explore the city. Contact one of them today to find out what your options are for bag storage in Minsk near Minsk-2.
The National Library of Belarus, with its interesting design and large collection of books, counts as one of the more engrossing stops in the city. It was developed, metaphorically, anyway, under the wing of the Belarusian State University in the early 1920s: It was known then as the Belarusian State and University Library. By the late 1920s, it became an independent entity in its own right. At that time, it was given the name of the Belarusian State Library.
During the Great Patriotic War, the library had lost most of its collection - nearly 85%. Library staff managed to get most of the important books out of the library, but many perished when the building burned. Once Belarus became a sovereign state, the library’s name changed to the National Library of Belarus.
For bibliophiles, no trip abroad is complete without a trip to a national library. If you count yourself among the world’s book lovers, then you’ll want to see the National Library of Belarus unencumbered by your stuff. By contacting one of our partners in the area, you can locate luggage storage in Minsk near the library.
Minsk’s oldest park was named in honor of Soviet-era writer Maksim Gorky. It was founded at the turn of the 19th century: Back then, the park was known as the City Gardens or Governor’s Garden. Its design was intended to mimic the gardens in English parks.
Today, the park provides amusement for kids and kids at heart. It has a 56-meter Ferris wheel, an ice skating rink and an observatory, complete with a planetarium, where you can learn about the stars. And during the summer, children can fulfill every child’s fantasy and ride ponies in the park.

This was so cool!!!! Great service, extremely easy to use, and totally affordable! I didn't know where I'd leave my luggage while we explored San Fran, so I easily Googled luggage storage and found this company. At first it was a little odd dropping my bag off at a chocolate store, but the lady at the register was able to immediately pull up my reservation without any problems and then she put a lock on my suitcase and gave me a card to get it back with. She pushed the bag to the back of their storage room and I came back about 6 hours later to pick it up. Great service, I will definitely be using this again when I travel!
